About

Welcome to the St. Mark’s Cathedral website. We are a parish of approximately 400 families from the Northern New Jersey area. St. Mark’s is also the seat of the Archbishop who is the spiritual head of the Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church for the Eastern United States. We have had this honor since the inception of the parish in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1958. St. Mark’s will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2008. We boast of being a very vibrant parish, one that focuses on the fulfillment of the spiritual and social needs of its parishioners.
We are extremely proud to have been blessed with Aramaic as our liturgical language. This is the language spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ and his disciples and we as a community have been committed to the teaching and preservation of the same.
Upon becoming a member of this parish, one finds many avenues and organizations to participate in. We offer a complete Sunday school program for the youngsters and a dynamic Bible Study Circle for the adults. The Cathedral Choir, with its live musical accompaniment, always adds to the regular Sunday Service as well as the special holiday services. Sermons offered at St. Mark’s will always leave you spiritually enriched and with much food for thought.
From a social perspective you will be guaranteed to find a welcoming spirit. Our Ladies Auxiliary, Cana Club, Youth and Junior Youth organization and Scouts offer a wide variety of options for the entire family. Every Sunday, after the Holy Liturgy, we have a coffee hour in the social hall where parishioners socialize in a comfortable family like setting. On occasion a breakfast or a luncheon may also be served.
Please join us regularly on Sunday mornings at 11:00 o'clock for our weekly service and the first Thursday of every month for our Youth Liturgy.
If you have any questions or inquiries, please contact our Board of Trustees or our Pastor and they will be more than happy to help you.
